The Friedland reception camp (Grenzdurchgangslager Friedland) is in the municipality of Friedland, Landkreis Göttingen, in southern Lower Saxony near the borders of Hesse and Thuringia. It is the single entry point for late repatriates (Spätaussiedler), their spouses and descendants processed under the Federal Expellees Act (§ 4, § 7, § 8 BVFG).
The closest large airports are Hannover (HAJ, ≈130 km), Frankfurt (FRA, ≈270 km), Kassel-Calden (KSF, ≈90 km) and Paderborn-Lippstadt (PAD). Passengers also arrive via Berlin Brandenburg (BER), Hamburg (HAM), Düsseldorf (DUS), Munich (MUC) and Dortmund (DTM), we run direct transfers from all of them.
By Deutsche Bahn train the trip usually requires one or two changes: ICE/IC to Hannover or Göttingen, then a regional RE/RB train to Friedland (Han) station, then a short walk to the camp. This works for light travellers but is inconvenient for family relocations with big suitcases and small children.
A direct car transfer to Friedland takes between 1h 30 (from Hannover) and 3-5 hours from remote airports, needs no transfers, includes airport meet & greet and luggage help. For families with children, elderly passengers and repatriates with a lot of luggage it is by far the calmest option.
Key tips: share the flight number and exact number of luggage pieces in advance; carry all documents (passport, BVA invitation letter, Registrierschein etc.) in hand luggage; plan the departure with a time buffer.
